A successful business owner living with rheumatoid arthritis, Cathy has been an arthritis advocate for seventeen years championing the patient experience, promoting more effective treatments and healthcare policies, and motivating and mentoring consumers to become involved in research decision-making and positive reform of the healthcare system.

She serves with the OMERACT Worker Productivity Group, is a Cochrane consumer reviewer, and is a consumer research team member on projects such as the Ontario Best Practices Research Initiative. As a member of the Consumer Advisory Council of the Canadian Arthritis Network, she sat on the Research Development Committee, and attended Best Medicines Coalition meetings. She has been an active Patient Partner in Arthritis and member of the Canadian Arthritis Patient Alliance, and her tireless efforts include presenting patient knowledge and experience at many events including to the Romanow Commission. She has served on both the Ontario and National Board of Directors of The Arthritis Society, chaired the Ontario Arthritis Advocacy Committee, and is a grant reviewer for the research program. She is a recipient of the Queen’s Golden and Diamond Jubilee Medals for her volunteer service.

Cathy is a dedicated and passionate arthritis advocate who approaches her many roles with intelligence and a good sense of humour. She knew and has been inspired by the many achievements of Ann Qualman and Jim Davies, and like them, she bases her activities on the premise ‘that those who are affected by a decision should help make that decision’.
