Join the “virtual” race to increase public awareness of autoimmune arthritis
May 20 is World Autoimmune Arthritis Day (WAAD). The International Foundation for Autoimmune Arthritis established this commemorative date back in 2012. The virtual event unites dozens of nonprofits, advocates, and experts from around the world to provide educational and awareness information to patients, their supporters, and the general public.
Participants and partner organizations will participate in a virtual global race where they will visit social media and organizational websites and resources. WAAD is hosted on May 20th for the duration of all Time Zones (May 19th 6am EST – May 21st 5am EST). You can participate online on Facebook and Twitter and follow the event’s hashtag #WAAD17. On race day, help Team ACEwin the race and spread awareness:
- Follow @ACEJointHealth on Twitter, like or retweet posts with #WAAD17
- Like Arthritis Consumer Experts’ Facebook Page, like or share posts with #WAAD17
- In your comments, shares, retweets and replies, make sure to tag Arthritis Consumer Experts and mention @ACEJointHealth and use the hashtag #WAAD17
For 2017, WAAD is putting the “AUTO” in AUTOimmune and AUTOinflammatory Arthritis Awareness. It will be an online awareness event designed to mimic an actual car race, complete with live breaking news, rallies (awareness posts), two dozen Nonprofit “Race Teams” and additional information kiosks (including one hosted by WEGO Health). This 47-hour event aims to bring awareness to those autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases with arthritis as a major component. A feature focus will be to differentiate this type from the more common version of arthritis – osteoarthritis, or degenerative arthritis (#ArthritisHasTypes).
This year the event is taking awareness to the next level, as it will tie awareness efforts into the racing community – from race car drivers to NASCAR® sponsors to racing equipment manufacturers to the Michelin® Man, #WAAD17 is sure to educate a whole new group of people who won’t see it coming.
Partner groups, to list a few, include Arthritis Consumer Experts/JointHealth™, the International Foundation for Autoimmune Arthritis (IFAA), Sjögren’s Syndrome Foundation, Arthritis New Zealand, the International Still’s Disease Foundation, the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society, Canadian Spondylitis Association, Creaky Joints, Lupus UK, International Pain Foundation, the National Ankylosing Spondylitis Society, and the European League Against Rheumatism.
