The fourth episode of #ArthritisAtHome features Dr. Catherine Backman, Senior Scientist, Arthritis Research Canada, and Professor, Department of Occupational Science & Occupational Therapy, the University of British Columbia, on routine, work/life balance and well-being during #COVID19. #MotivationMonday
Dr. Backman studies the impact of arthritis on participation in social roles, like parenting and employment, and how people balance the occupations or everyday activities they need and want to do. She is also President of theCanadian Association of Occupational Therapists (2018-2020).
In this interview, Dr. Backman also offers tips for structuring daily routines in the presence of uncertainty. She discusses the concept of working from home, teaching kids from home, staying at home, and how to measure productivity. Like arthritis, COVID-19 disrupts routines and occupations. Because people with arthritis are experts at managing uncertainty, Dr. Backman believes they have a lot to teach the world about ways to manage daily life during the pandemic.
